Black Glue Resist Flower
Supplies:
This project is visually very stunning and deceptively simple to do! The secret is black glue! Black glue can be hard to find but that’s okay because it’s easy to make at home. Just add any kind of black acrylic paint to a bottle of white glue. You will want the bottle of glue to have room at the top to add the paint. You can use any kind of acrylic paint, the .99 cent stuff from Hobby Lobby or the good artists acrylic paint...whatever is easiest for you to find!
Add about 2-3 Tablespoon of paint to the glue, just eyeball it, and then mix it thoroughly with a popsicle stick, shisk-ke-bab stick, dowel...anything that you can fit into the bottle. Step 1 done!
Step 2:
Now find a large picture of a flower (or draw one yourself if you feel courageous!) that you really like...keep it somewhat simple. The larger the blossoms the better. If you picture is too small you can blow it up on a printer or find one on the Internet and increase the size if it is too small.
When you have your picture, place it on the watercolor/cardstock. Using a pencil, outline the flower using steady, hard pressure. When you are completed you should have imprints of your lines on the watercolor paper. Starting in the center of your flower, place a thin bead of the black glue on each of the lines working out. When you have then all covered with the black glue, set them aside someplace safe to dry.
Step 3:
When the glue is completely dry it is time to paint! This is the FUN part! To get the colors to blend, start with wet paper. Before you apply paint to any area, wet it with your brush. Then when you add your paint it will spread nicely across your wet surface. Then rinse your brush and pick up another color with your brush and put it in the same space as the last color and see how nicely the colors blend. This technique is called wet in wet! Have fun!
